The rat community is full of misconceptions. It is important to ensure that these are cleared to alleviate misunderstanding, preventing unnecessary stress for owners and their rats.

It can be hard to find pictures and images of injuries and conditions in rats. Pictures are the most valuable way to compare conditions and help prepare the community for health problems.

About the Author

Hi! I'm Caspian. I am a rodent enthusiast with a background in veterinary nursing and biological sciences. I have just recently completed my master's in medical parasitology and entomology and have since graduated in March 2026.

Rat care has drastically changed over the course of the last twenty-five years due to the rapidly-developing exotic pet veterinary research. As a result, discrepancies and misconceptions run rampant in the pet rat community.

Noticing gaps in accessible information, I sought out to provide an open-access source surrounding rat care that is backed by scientific literature. My goal is to provide accessible information for all - from professionals to pet owners.

Collaborators

Through the help of the community, I have been able to compile a robust media library showcasing stereotypical behaviours, unique medical cases, and key points to look out for in rats. A big thanks to everyone who has contributed media, feedback, and advice to ensure this open source is accessible for as many individuals as possible!
